I’ll start with ‘Ni Hao’ – the Chinese word for hello.
I’m Ivy Diao, a freelance Chinese translator and editor living in Auckland, New Zealand. With a passion for cross-cultural communications and 7 years of translation experience, I specialise in tourism and marketing translation as well as website localisation.
My mission is clear: help my clients reach and engage their Chinese customers in the best way they can. Whether you need an engaging tourism brochure, an eye-catching marketing flyer or an informative website, I am here to help you create the Chinese content that best resonates with your target audience.
How I work
Step 1 - Initial Consultation
Let’s meet to discuss your project and confirm your requirements. I’ll collect any existing translation terminologies, as well as confirm the style specifications and tone of voice.
Step 2 - First Draft
I’ll create a source-to-target language translation appropriate for Chinese audiences. If necessary, I’ll consult with you to confirm whether certain messages need to be adapted to suit Chinese readers.
Step 3 - Refinement
Building upon the initial translation, I will refine the draft by improving the flow of the text and ensuring it reads as though it was originally crafted in Chinese.
Step 4 - Proofreading
Finally, I will proofread the translation for any punctuation errors, typos, or style inconsistencies, before delivering a flawless final product.
My story
As a NAATI accredited English to Chinese & Chinese to English translator and a full member of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters, you can trust me to take care of all your Chinese translation needs.
I began my freelance translation career in 2009, just before I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpretation in China. I then came to New Zealand to further my studies, and soon graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation Studies (with Distinction) from the University of Auckland.
After graduating, I joined BTM Marketing, a leading New Zealand translation and marketing agency, as an in-house translator and marketing coordinator.
During my three years at BTM, I gained deep insights into New Zealand tourism industry and valuable marketing experience. And I had the amazing opportunity to work with some of the New Zealand tourism industry’s top clients, including Tourism New Zealand, Tourism Auckland, SKYCITY, and Auckland Airport.
Now I work for both direct clients all over the world and translation agencies in the US and Europe, including Booking.com and Amazon.
